California IHSS
Medical Evaluations

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) helps California seniors and disabled residents live safely at home. Our board-certified physicians provide the medical evaluation required for your IHSS application, handled completely via telehealth.

What Is California IHSS?

California's In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program is one of the largest and most comprehensive home care programs in the United States. Funded jointly by state and federal Medi-Cal dollars and administered by each county, IHSS pays providers, often family members, to deliver in-home care to eligible Californians.

To qualify, applicants must be 65 or older, legally blind, or disabled; receive Medi-Cal; need assistance with daily living activities due to a medical condition; and be at risk of institutionalization without in-home support. Eligibility is determined through a two-step process: a county social worker home assessment and a physician's medical evaluation.

The physician's role, which is completed on the SOC 873 form, is to document the medical basis for your functional limitations. This is where our telehealth doctors add critical value: we understand what IHSS reviewers need to see and document your condition's impact on daily functioning in the specific terms that support approval.
